Hi, my name is Kristen Markey and I am twenty one years old. I live in Budapest Hungary with my mom. I have lived in Hungary for ten years in a little village called Vajta, but I just now moved to the city. The reason why I am with my mom is Because my mom is a missionary / teacher at a Bible College in Hungary. She teaches the Biblical Mission’sΒ Program.
I was born in Kiev, Ukraine. My whole family moved there in 1992. I have eight siblings, four sisters and four brothers. I am the youngest of nine children. They are all Americans and I was adopted four years after they moved. My sister Rhonda Kay and her friend were visiting baby’s in a Ukrainian Hospital. and after a while they find me when I was only a few month old. I was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, and I had a hole in my heart. I had no name, soΒ they had decided to name me Kristen Hope. They wrote letters to people in the States to help raise money for my surgery. They responded, sent the money, and I had the operation. Months later I was adopted by the Markey Family.
(the Castle in Vajta, Bible College)
For now I am living in Hungary but next year I will go to Shepherds College in Wisconsin. I am very nervous and could use a lot of prayer.
My favorite things to do are: watch movies / TV shows ( Lord of the rings, Doctor Who, Mission Impossible, etc), swing with my music on,and climb trees. I love making friends and Traveling. I am only 4.8″,Β but give amazing hugs. I love talking to people and I love encouraging them.
Congrats on your first blog post! Yay! An amazing story, an amazing young lady!

Reblogged this on Distant Fields and commented:
If you’ve read Distant Fields, or already know the story, then you are familiar with Kristen Markey who was adopted by George and Pam Markey. Well, now Kristen has started a blog. Enjoy reading!

Kristen, I really enjoyed your blog. I have the need to tell you a bit about my childhood. I lived in the country about 1/2 mile or so from your Dad as we were growing up. We rode bikes together almost every day…even to school in Ladoga..which was probably 5-6miles each way. On Sundays, as soon as my chores (mainly the Sunday dinner dishes) were done, George and I would take off on our bikes. Oh what fun memories I have of that time.
I did not realize until the book Distant fields came out that your Dad, Mom and siblings were right here in Crawfordsville…the town I live in now. Oh how I wish I had known that…I would have loved to share memories with your Dad. I left the Ladoga country home just before I was in the 8th grade. We moved to the country just west of New Ross, where your Dad preached, by the time I was married…again not knowing he was so close.
I am sorry to have rambled on and on. After reading Distant Fields, I felt the closeness that your Dad and I shared as youngsters. As I read and re-read the book, I could hear your Dad speaking..in that huge voice, so wished I had known him as an adult. From the book, I realize he was truly a man of God and loved sharing His word. I also could tell just how much he loved his children, and taught each of you the meaning of Gods LOVE.
I am sending prayers your way as you enter another stage in your life. Always remember the teachings of your father and of God. I am sure you will be successful in your new adventure and I know God will walk through the days and nights with you. π Jean Nichols Morgan

Kristan,
It’s great watching you grow up, what a great life story you have- so unique and full
of faith. Truly you can say:
Psalm 61:5 Thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name.

Hi Kristen.
Great first blog!
I am also one of nine siblings so I am sure you will have good stories about growing up in a large family.
FYI, I am a friend of Jon and George and their families and met Aaron on my last trip to Ukraine (from Canada).
Keep up the good work.

I read your blog a few days ago and am reading it again to Mike Robinson who you know from HCF Indy. He is my husband. Just want you to know how much we appreciate your blog. You have given us the wonderful privilege to pray for you. Thank you! I was with Vi Goodrich, my sister, when we visited you in the baby hospital. God has chosen you before time began to be in the Markey family. He is with you wherever you go. He will be with you at this school. HCF Indy is not that far away so you will have friends sort of close. We will continue to keep you on our prayers. Keep a updated through your blogs! God bless youβ€οΈβΌοΈ
